Language of Flowers: The Thistle Speaks

18 Sep

Symbol of noble birth.

In reply Jesus declared, “I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again. ”  John 3:3

In the language of flowers, the thistle is an ancient Celtic symbol of nobility of character as well as nobility of birth.  It could well symbolize our new birth as Christians.  How much more nobly born could one be than to be a child of the King of Kings?  We do well to remember our spiritual heritage when we are tempted to fear.  All of the resources of the Kingdom of God are at our beck and call if we will only appropriate them.  Receive.  Believe.

Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.  Mathew 10:29-31
