Know Fear on the Fear of God Part 3

28 Jan

And Moses said unto the people, Fear not: for God is come to prove you, and that his fear may be before your faces, that ye sin not. Exodus 20.20

Moses spoke these words to the Israelites when they were frightened of God’s presence nearby on Mount Sinai.  Moses tells them not to be afraid of God, but to reverence Him instead.  Ed Young, Jr. calls the fear of God “Christianity in the raw.”  I like that.  We get to know God, reverence Him for who He is, and that is the beginning of true Christianity in our lives.  The more time we spend reverencing Him whether in prayer as we walk through our days, in Bible study, or worship, the more we realize who He is and place Him on the throne of our lives.  When He is on the throne we are empowered to not sin.  The problems come in those moments when we depose Him and enthrone ourselves.

Moses spoke to the people: “Don’t be afraid. God has come to test you and instill a deep and reverent awe within you so that you won’t sin.”  Exodus 20:20 The Message
