Fear God and Keep His Commandments

19 Oct

Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.  Eccl. 12:13

Fear God.  The meaning of the word “fear” here is a reverence toward him and a proper acknowledgement of who He is.

Sum of life according to Ecclesiastes:  Fear God and keep his commandments.

  1. Know that HE IS and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
  2. Reverence Him; adore Him.
  3. Keep His commandments.  These are summed up here:  “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart and thy neighbor as thyself.”

Those of us who tend to be fearful tend to start thinking, then if I am not doing these things perfectly, should I fear?  No.  When we received Christ as Savior, we received His righteousness.  We will never keep His commandments perfectly.  Ever.  But we can grow in the image of Christ as we keep our eyes on Him.
