Perfect Love Casts Out Fear Part 6

5 Oct

There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and he who fears is not perfected in love

1 John 4:18

Perfect love casts out fear. Casts out is an extremely physical word.  Some of its literal meanings are, “turns fear out of doors and expels every trace of it” and “throws as if into jail.”

Perfect love—we  see here the same word we saw in verse 17:  In this way, love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment, because in this world we are like him.  Remember that it means mature love, that which accomplishes its intended goal or work?  And who is love?  God is.  God’s love is accomplishing its intended work when it can throw fear out the door.  We just need to allow His love to do its work.  We simply don’t crimp the hose shut!

So when we receive God’s love, fear gets knocked out the door as if with a fire hose.  Throw yourself open to receiving God’s love!
