Speak to Those With Fearful Hearts Part 4

10 Sep

And the desert shall rejoice, and blossom as the rose.

Say to those with fearful hearts,
       “Be strong, do not fear;
       your God will come,
       he will come with vengeance;
       with divine retribution
       he will come to save you.” Isaiah 35:4 NIV

We’ve been taking a look at Is. 35:4 this week, but let’s move on and look at the results of strengthening those with fearful hearts.  (Including our own.)

Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped. v. 5

  • The eyes of the blind shall be opened.  Figuratively, this means the eyes of those who live in darkness will be opened to wisdom and understanding.  God will give us the ability to truly see.  I love how this applies to the story of Elijah and his servant.  They were surrounded by Syrian troops, horses, and chariots; the servant was terrified.  Don’t be afraid,” the prophet answered.  “Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.”  (2 Kings 6:16)  Elisha prayed and the eyes of the servant were opened to see that the mountains were full of chariots of fire.  God opened the eyes of the servant and blinded the eyes of the enemy.  when we feel alone in the desert, God is with us.
  • The ears of the deaf will be unstopped.  Our ears, as an instrument of intelligence and obedience, will be opened.  God will give us the ability to truly hear–like Elijah heard the still small voice of the Lord when he fled into the desert.

God has been speaking to me all week, in various ways:  Be still, and know that I am God.
